Timber is truly an amazing dog. With a fine temperment, a willing heart, and a fun-loving disposition, Timber is always there to make me smile. He is gorgeous as well, with his Mahogony red coat and light golden / amber eyes. I get a lot of comment and questions about his right ear - everything from how did it get that way to will his puppies have a flop ear like that - the answer is really pretty simple. Malamutes have naturally perky ears, but they are born floppy until the cartalidge developes. Infact, a pup's ears may stand up, but because of their weight and unproportionate size - the pup may drop them again out of laziness. However, all Malamute ears should eventually be standing up. If the ear get's damaged though, during this formative time, the cartalidge will never harden properly, and the ear will not stand. This damage could be anything from overly playing and bending the ears or a scrap with litter mates in the kennel. This was the case with Timber. His ear was damaged as a puppy, and even the hair follicles on the crease have turned white showing the damage. None of his sired puppies have had a permanently flopped ear - it IS NOT a genetic condition.
Please take a look at the following link if you are having "ear issues". OH, THOSE EARS !

Timber LOVES the snow. This was taken at the 2004 White Mountain Winter Games. Timber was almost a year old. Timber came from Kentucky, and this was the first time that he had actually seen snow, and you can see how much he loved it !

pull. Here he shows excellent form.
Timber is an incredibly handsome dog. He turns heads everywhere we go with his
shocking, rare color.
Moonridge's Kentucky Timber comes from Tina Black's Kennel in Kentucky. I purchased him as a 7-month old puppy. He was born in the Spring of 2003. He actually looks bigger than he is because his hair is so long and thick; he is not a wooly - but he is close to it. Timber weighs in at just over 100 lbs at most weight pull events, usually fluxuating between 98 and 105 pounds. His coat is a recessive gene, and so far - of Timber's 25 + sired puppies none have been red.

In fact, in the Spring of 2007, my son did a science project on genetics using the dogs and their pedigrees as research materials proving that it is genetically impossible for Timber and Ophelia to have red puppies.
Always ready to love, smile, cock his little floppy ear to the side, and howl in a harmonizing fashion with passing sirens - Timber is a true character in the kennel !
